Another round of heavy rain and damaging wind will be possible for Friday.
ATLANTA — We had a major storm system sweeping through north Georgia earlier this week, and our next system arrives Friday with heavy rain, damaging wind, and even a brief tornado possible.

The severe threat includes all of north Georgia, with a marginal risk (level one out of five) for the mountains, a slight risk (level two out of five) for the Atlanta area, and an enhanced risk (level three out of five) for those south of Atlanta.
Our main risk with storms will be damaging wind, but a brief, spin-up tornado can’t be ruled out. While our threat will be more isolated to scattered for strong storms in north Georgia, more widespread severe storms will be possible for middle and south Georgia.
The severe threat comes from another large storm system moving across the country, which looks to bring the main impacts to our region Friday afternoon.
Starting off Friday, expect cloud cover to thicken with patchy drizzle in spots.
Shower activity will pick up closer to the noon timeframe with scattered moderate rainfall.
Rain becomes more widespread for mid-afternoon, with heavy downpours in spots and the threat of severe weather increasing.
The main line of storms moves through closer to 6 p.m. in the Atlanta area with a threat of damaging wind in some stronger storms.
Storms will move out early Friday evening, and cooler, drier conditions will begin to move in with a much colder air mass for the weekend, as temperatures will be in the 20s to 30s for lows and 40s for highs.
