Several nonprofit organizations located in DeKalb were named recipients of grants from Delta Community Credit Union.

A news release from the credit union on Dec. 6 stated that Delta Community’s Philanthropic Fund will “invest a total of $150,000 in 20 highly respected nonprofit organizations that support health and human services, financial literacy, and STEM/STEAM education.”

Five of the organizations receiving funding are located or operate in DeKalb.

Wellroot Family Services in Tucker—formerly known as Tucker United Methodist Church—was a recipient of the fund’s top grant of $10,000, according to the news release. Wellroot Family Services’ website states it is a faith-based organization that provides foster care, transitional living, independent living, family homes, and other services to youth and young adults in the community.

Global Growers Network in Decatur—which states on its website that it supports farmers and community growers growing local and healthy produce—was one of two DeKalb nonprofits to earn a $7,500 grant from the fund. The other $7,500-grant recipient was Strive Atlanta, which assists people with employment and development.

Georgia State University’s Project Healthy Grandparents provides monthly visitation by registered nurses, social workers, and parenting advice in Atlanta, Avondale Estates, Decatur, Lithonia, and other areas in metro Atlanta and was a $5,000 grant recipient.

College AIM in Atlanta was another DeKalb-based nonprofit to receive a $5,000 grant. The nonprofit partners with Atlanta area high schools to “help students get into technical two-year and four-year postsecondary programs.”

Men Stopping Violence—a nonprofit in Tucker with the goal of preventing domestic violence—also received a $5,000 grant.

The news release states that once the disbursement of the awards is completed during the 2024 calendar year, the fund will have invested nearly $1.2 million in more than 220 Atlanta-area nonprofit organizations since launching in 2014.
