🌱 Local Principal On Wheel Of Fortune + City Code Public Feedback

Hey, neighbors! It’s me, Nicole Fallon-Peek, your host of the Patch newsletter. Here are all the things you need to know about what’s happening in the community today.

But first, your local weather:

  • Thursday: Beautiful with some sun. High: 79 Low: 65.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny and beautiful. High: 81 Low: 62.

Here are the top three stories today in Sandy Springs:

  • Sandy Springs Elementary School principal Laryn Nelson made an appearance on the TV show “Wheel of Fortune” Wednesday night. With over three decades of experience in education, Nelson has been the dedicated leader of Lake Forest Elementary for several years. The Lake Forest Administration team eagerly cheered on Ms. Nelson in this exciting endeavor. (11 Alive)
  • On Sep. 26, Sandy Springs is hosting an open house at city hall to discuss proposed updates to the city’s development code. The public is invited to attend the event at 6:00 p.m. to learn about the proposed changes and provide feedback. These updates to the development code are part of the city’s comprehensive plan, and the proposals will be presented to the Planning Commission in November for their recommendation to the city council. Public comments can also be submitted online between Sep. 26 and Oct. 13, or at later meetings in November and December. (Rough Draft Atlanta)
  • The Sandy Springs City Council recently approved a contract with Lose Design to design and manage the construction of a 23-acre park on the Chattahoochee River’s banks, marking the culmination of years of community efforts and planning. The park, located off Old Riverside Drive, will feature nature trails, river observation areas, play facilities, and green infrastructure while maintaining a passive and natural ambiance. The project is estimated to cost around $5 million, with $500,000 allocated for Lose Design’s services, and funding options will be evaluated during the eight to nine-month design phase.
